Style File – Marilyn Monroe

GLAMOROUS, beautiful, and yet troubled, Marilyn Monroe remains one of Hollywood’s most famous stars – known as much for her feminine curves and undeniable sex appeal as her screen presence. Born in Los Angeles in 1926 as Norma Jeanne Mortenson, Monroe spent most of her childhood in foster care before launching a career in modelling. It wasn’t long before she caught the eye of 20 Century Fox executive Ben Lyon, and the rest is cinematic history. She sung to a President, wooed some of Hollywood’s most eligible menand wore some world’s most iconic dresses – Monroe standing on a subway grate, with her white halter-neck dress billowing in the wind, has become one of cinema’s most enduring images. Yet Monroe struggled to find happiness and battled with long-term mental illness. On August 5 1962, she was found dead in her LA home following a drug overdose.
